A referendum is a direct vote by the player base on a proposal or rule change. This is in contrast to an issue being unilaterally decided on by the server administration. This may result in the adoption of a new policy or specific rule, or the referendum may be only advisory. Referendums allow players who regularly play on Attempt2 to have a say in the server's direction moving forward, and allows for a more democratic adoption of server policy.

Procedure[edit source]

Suggestions[edit source]

The Attempt2 referendum process begins when an Active Member of the Attempt2 Minecraft server, which is a player:

  • with a total of at least 1 hour of server playtime,
  • that has logged on to the server at least once in 28 days,
  • that has not received any punishment in at least 28 days,

proposes a change or suggestion for the server. The member is question must have gathered least 1/3 (or 33%) of all Server Member support. The current number of Active Members of Attempt2 sits at 35 players as of February 10th. Therefore, the number currently required for an official referendum is 11 players. Conversely, if this number cannot be met, unanimous agreement by staff can also elevate a proposal to a referendum vote.

Processing[edit source]

Once a vote proposal has met the requirements, the individual whom originally proposed the topic must send staff a brief, but informative description of what the vote entails. Once staff have approved of the description, the proposal shall be put to vote.

Voting[edit source]

Voting has, up to this point, occurred directly on the Attempt2 Discord server via responding with an emote. However, multiple flaws have been pointed out in this voting model. Therefore, all new referendums shall occur like so:

  • A Google Forms form will be set up for each vote.
  • In the form, you will be asked for your Minecraft Username. Your Minecraft username must match that of an Active Member for the vote to be valid.
  • You will be asked to vote, generally a Yes or No answer, and you will submit the form.

Voting, in most cases, will be open for 72 hours from the vote announcement being posted in #server-polls on the Discord server.

Duplicated votes will be nullified and investigated. If it is discovered you voted fraudulently, you will be disciplined, likely with a ban.

Results[edit source]

Results will be posted in its respective page on the A2wiki and staff will provide a results screenshot in the #server-polls Discord channel after it has been created. Depending on the results of a vote, changes may take up to 24-48 hours to take effect, depending on the proposal.
